A rare vinyl edition of Röyksopp’s 2001 album Melody A.M. featuring artwork by Banksy has sold at auction for £3,720, according to NME.
The special release dates to 2002, when the Norwegian duo sent Banksy 100 blank record sleeves to customise. Banksy spray-painted the covers in green using a bespoke stencil.
The copy was sold through Wessex Auction Rooms to a local street-art collector. According to BBC News, the buyer initially missed the lot but later contacted the auction house with an offer of £3,000 before closing the deal at £3,720.
Auctioneer and vinyl expert Martin Hughes told BBC News that the price was driven mainly by Banksy’s artwork, not the record’s condition or Röyksopp’s popularity. He noted that the album had “definitely been played.”
Another Banksy-covered version of the album sold for $10,465.10, or £8,477.25, on Discogs in 2019.
