Priyanka Chopra says respect for a partner’s background plays a major role in a healthy marriage. In comments to E! News at the New York premiere of Cycle of Love on Aug. 20, Chopra said that Nick Jonas embracing Indian culture and traditions has helped strengthen their relationship.
Chopra said she would not love Jonas the same way if he did not value those traditions, adding that respecting a partner’s roots is especially important in multicultural relationships. She also said that being kind to your partner is one of the simplest ways to keep a relationship strong.
Since their 2018 wedding, Jonas has taken part in Hindu holidays, listened to Hindi music and helped keep their 4-year-old daughter, Malti, connected to her Indian heritage, according to E! News. Chopra said that effort matters to her and remains a meaningful part of their marriage.
Chopra also spoke about Cycle of Love, a documentary she executive produced about P. K. Mahanandia and Lotta Von Schedvin. She said their story of love, resilience and commitment was a reminder of the importance of standing by the person you love.
