Olivia Rodrigo surprised fans on Friday with the release of her new song “Serena Joy,” making it available first through a limited-edition CD single sold only at one indie record shop, according to Rolling Stone.
Analog Music Shop in Tustin, California, said on social media that Rodrigo provided 500 copies of the single to the store. By Friday night, all of the CDs had sold out.
The shop said it was excited to take part because Rodrigo is bringing an all-women music festival, Daisy Chain Fields, to Orange County next weekend. The store noted that it is one of the closest record shops to Irvine’s Great Park, where the festival will be held.
Rodrigo told Etalk that “Serena Joy” was recorded for her recent album, You Look Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, but did not make the final track list because it did not fit the album’s story. The record shop also suggested the song could see a wider digital release on Monday.
