Hollis Brown have released their first new song since their acrimonious breakup in 2023, according to Rolling Stone. The Queens rock band put out “Garage Days” on Friday.
Singer Mike Montali said drummer Andy Zehnal helped ease tensions between him and founding guitarist Jonathan Bonilla. Montali described the situation as a classic rock and roll split between strong personalities that needed another bandmate to help bridge the gap.
The new track looks back on the group’s earliest days, when they were first playing together as high school students in Bonilla’s father’s garage. Montali said the song reflects a desire to return to the beginning and make music for the same reasons they did when they were teenagers.
Hollis Brown first got back together in March for a one-off show at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, New Jersey. After that performance, the band members went their separate ways, but they now have another show scheduled for Sept. 26 at Mercury Lounge in New York.
