Bunny Levine, actress in Gilmore Girls and La La Land, dies at 97

Bunny Levine, the former school librarian who went on to build an acting career in film and television, has died at 97, according to CBS News.

Her manager, Brandon Kjar, confirmed that Levine died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Tarzana, California, on Aug. 20. Her family said in a statement that she inspired affection and admiration through both her work in education and performance.

Levine was born Dec. 22, 1928, in East Orange, New Jersey. She earned master’s degrees from New York University and Columbia University and spent 25 years working as a school librarian before retiring and pursuing acting full time.

After turning to auditions, Levine booked roles in shows and films including Gilmore Girls, La La Land, Law & Order and Raising Hope. Her more recent credits included The Invisible Raptor in 2023, as well as Sacramento and Thelma in 2024. According to CBS News, she continued auditioning and last worked in June.

Levine and her husband, Bernie Levine, founded Actors Connection in New York City in 1991. She is survived by her children, Marty, Francie and Joe, and her grandchildren, Robin and Jeffrey.
