Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is mourning the death of his 2-year-old son, Ed Oliver III, after a drowning accident, according to E! News.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane confirmed the loss in a statement posted to Instagram on Aug. 22, saying the organization wanted to express its condolences to Oliver and his family. Beane called it an unthinkable tragedy and said the team will continue to support them as they grieve.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Oliver III died on June 28 after authorities found the toddler unresponsive in a swimming pool at a home outside Houston, Texas. The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
Oliver, who has spent his entire NFL career with the Bills since being drafted in 2019, also has a daughter, Ava, with longtime partner Dymond Gladney. After the news became public, Bills quarterback Josh Allen said the team plans to rally around Oliver and support him however they can.
